OUR MISSION

Our mission is to confront the stigmas of alcohol and chemical dependency through greater public awareness of the true nature of substance use disorder, and to promote recovery efforts that are consistent with evidence-based treatment while respecting every individual’s unique path to recovery.

In addition to our primary focus on public education, we offer grass roots support for initiatives that are relevant to the addiction and recovery communities, including:

  1. Enhanced accountability among healthcare insurers and providers;
  2. Effective community-level responses to the opioid crisis, including reform within the criminal justice system;
  3. Promoting evidence- based standards of [medical] care;
  4. Ensuring credible management of facilities that market themselves as ‘sober living’ and ‘recovery homes’.

Safe Sober Living was founded in memory of Carter Kingman Berardi and is a Massachusetts-based 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization.
